Description
Theme: "Pinktober: Lighting Up the Valley Against Breast Cancer"
Speaker: Heidi Garland
Heidi Garland is a breast cancer and multiple cancer survivor and advocate for the American Cancer Society. She is a fundraiser who works to increase awareness and fund cutting-edge research. She is a wife and mother of two sons and one daughter-in-law. She owns Guild West Agency, a digital marketing firm. Heidi epitomizes the survivor movement because, despite her many cancers and surgeries, starting with a double mastectomy in 2008, she has kept on fighting while volunteering for the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Heidi’s mission is to transform cancer from deadly to treatable and treatable to preventable.
Why Breast Cancer Awareness is Important: Breast cancer is a leading cause of death among women worldwide. Early detection and treatment significantly improve survival rates. By raising awareness, we can encourage women to prioritize regular screenings, seek medical advice promptly, and support those who have been diagnosed.
Why the Silicon Valley Central Chamber of Commerce Hosts a Breast Cancer Awareness Event: The Silicon Valley Central Chamber of Commerce has a long-standing commitment to community well-being. Breast cancer is a prevalent health issue, and by hosting this event, the chamber aims to:
Empower women: Provide resources and information to help women take control of their health.
Support local organizations: Partner with breast cancer foundations and support their initiatives.
Foster a sense of community: Unite the community in a common cause and show solidarity for those affected by breast cancer.
