PRESS RELEASE

City of Santa Clara and Silicon Valley Central Chamber Partner to Support Business

The Silicon Valley Central Chamber (SVC Chamber) and the City of Santa Clara have committed to a renewed partnership to engage in future opportunities to strengthen its partnership and to invest in the small business community.

During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Santa Clara responded to support businesses by providing financial resources to small businesses in Santa Clara through emergency COVID-19 relief programs, such as the Small Business Assistance Grant Program. To continue the ongoing commitment to economic recovery, the City of Santa Clara has been working to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement with the SVC Chamber to support local businesses with additional resources. The agreement was approved on (enter date or will be heard at a future Council meeting). As the State of California begins to reopen, the goal to solidify efforts between the City of Santa Clara and the SVC Chamber is critical during this post-COVID-19 pandemic phase.

“The Silicon Valley Central Chamber is keenly aware of the impacts of COVID-19 on the Santa Clara business community, including the recent loss of jobs, loss of revenue and economic vitality. We have renewed our partnership with the City of Santa Clara, stronger than ever, and are firmly committed to support the needs of our business community,” stated SVC Chamber President/CEO Christian D. Malesic.

“This collaborative effort between the City of Santa Clara and the Silicon Valley Central Chamber comes at a pivotal moment for our businesses impacted by the pandemic and economic downturn,” added Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor, “Our business community will truly benefit from the future opportunities and resources being offered through this renewed partnership.”

Together, the City of Santa Clara and Silicon Valley Central Chamber commit to several goals including: sponsoring business educational workshops and seminars on topics of importance to the business community (e.g. how to be certified as a minority-owned, women-owned, or veteran-owned business), engaging with businesses and conducting regular visits to Santa Clara small businesses, developing outreach activities to gather feedback from businesses to inform the City Council on future policy considerations such as the reform and modernization of Santa Clara business tax, establishing regular communication on organizational events and resources such as small business assistance grant programs and community events.

The Santa Clara local business community has faced unprecedented challenges over the past year and a half, the City of Santa Clara continues its commitment to establishing partnerships to invest in economic development and to provide businesses the support needed to jumpstart the road to recovery.
